Skill-a-thon
The purpose of the Skill-a-thon contest is to assess practical skills related to the beef industry and Simmental cattle. The contest may include a visual identification via slide projection or PowerPoint, identification of the actual subject or a combination of the two.

Time Limit:
Contest length will be determined by the schedule and the complexity of the contest as determined by the state hosting the contest.

Provided Materials:
  • Materials essential to the completion of the Skill-a-thin will be determined and provided by the host state

Materials to Bring:

  • Pencil or pen
  • Contestants may not bring notes, books or reference materials into testing area.

Possible speech subject areas will include, but are not limited to:

  • Breed Identification
  • Beef Nutrition and Feedstuffs
  • Beef Cattle Diseases
  • Herd Identification
  • Meats and Animal By-products
  • Beef Industry Current Events
  • Application of ASA Programs and Materials (THE, calf enrollment, codes, ratios)
  • Problem Solving
